Harold Lindsell’s Battle for the Bible (1976) sounded a call for the church to come back to its roots in the Bible. Unlike other books, Lindsell named the names of other evangelicals he thought were compromising the inerrancy of Scripture. Even sympathetic critics today conclude that Lindsell’s book was divisive and unhelpful, but that his basic concern was indeed correct.
