The apostle Paul wrote,
“Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. Do all things without grumbling or questioning,”
Philippians 2:12-14 (ESV)
When we put Paul’s instruction alongside the greatest commandment articulated by Jesus Christ—to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind” (Matthew 22:36-37)—we find an ethic for discipleship that is essentially personal.
So what is personal discipleship? We define personal discipleship as the process in which a believer or seeker takes personal responsibility for investigating the claims and content of the Bible.
Don’t put your faith in Jesus because anyone tells you to—do your homework and draw your own conclusions. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” Ultimately “the truth” is a person. The search is not some ethereal quest for unknowable wisdom, based on fairy tales for idiots. It is a fascinating, joy-filled, fact-based undertaking that will highlight the veracity of the Scriptures. We try to stimulate thinking and dialog by sharing resources that can help you figure it out.

I like this Truth John ……..Don’t put your faith in Jesus because anyone tells you to—do your homework and draw your own conclusions. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.”
As we know Jesus is also The Living Word, to find Truth we need to find Him first and without The Holy Spirit empowering us we won’t, we will think it’s just foolishness (1Corinthians 2:9-16) Jesus warned the Pharisees about this even though they were studying the Scriptures but yes as you said John, they had no Love, God is Love.
Also True as you shared John, worldly wisdom is a dead end, (please see link below it will save detail here) unless we know God’s Truth we will accept error but in my own walk with the Lord and with not being Born with God’s wisdom and so finding myself very confused and having doubts by all the different teaching in Denominations etc , I asked for His wisdom and received it, (James1:5-6) as no doubt others have and you too John and so with having asked for The Holy Spirit (Luke11:13) and being anointed, we never have to doubt God is Love and we Love Him and others too, when we are in Christ Jesus.
Proverbs 4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

Hi Clarke, Can you help? I seem to remember a really good quotation in one of your blogs along the lines of things that are debatable shouldn’t be used in preaching (interpretations of prophecy etc.) as they can distract folks from the gospel message, and can ultimately result in atheism. Does this ring any bells?
In appreciation,
Sarah
